Croquet
No, Seton Hill is not planning to start intercollegiate croquet (is there such a thing?)! But I did spend several hours yesterday with other Seton Hill people at the annual croquet tournament; the University has a pair play every year. Team Duffy and Cooper didn't get as far in the rankings as they often do, but they still had a good showing. The "team" is made up of Jim Duffy, who is the husband of administrative assistant Peggy Duffy, and Eric Cooper, my husband.
The duo lost their first match--which they never do (Eric said they were playing to the level of their competition)--but got to play again since it was double elimination. They then won their next two matches. When they went up for their fourth game I was praying pretty hard that they would lose. It was hot out there!
Luckily, they did lose and we could all get some well-earned shade. ;)
Croquet wasn't the only thing that made the weekend eventful, though. The HOBY panel was great! Very interesting. And I was introduced by a terrific student, Lisa from Gateway High School. She interviewed me and then wrote up an introduction for me to provide before I spoke on the panel topic, "Higher Education: How to get the most from your education." She did a great job at the mic!
I continued to meet neat students at the college fair: Jenna from Somerset who was interested in basketball, business, and teaching(actually I met two Jennas Saturday); Josh from Chestnut Ridge High School who is interested in chemistry and forensic science; Tommy from Belle Vernon Area H. S. (my alma mater) who is interested in Spanish and organic chemistry; and Caitlin from Uniontown who is interested in law, theatre, biology, and cheerleading (she was thrilled to hear we are starting scholarships for cheerleading!).
