Seton Hill? Seton Hall? Huh?
Coming off the road as an Admissions Counselor you have lots of stories and lots of questions that come home with. My territory in particular (due to it's closeness to NJ and Seton Hall) is the worst! The most common statement is: "OH! I thought you were Seton HALL!"
So, for your benefit as well as mine, I have composed a compare/contrast list of The 'Hill' and Seton Hall.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I have!
The Hill is located in Greensburg, PA
Seton Hall is located in South Orange, NJ (330 miles apart to be exact..according to my trusty travel friend RandMcNally.
We are both suburban
We are the Griffins
They are the Pirates
We both are of Catholic faith
We were founded by Elizabeth Seton (Aunt of James R. Bayley)
They were founded by Bishop James R. Bayley
We have an undergrad of 1800+
They have an undergrad of 5200
We have the same student to teacher ratio 15:1
We are members of the Common Application
They are not
We are with the Sisters of Charity
They are with the Archdiocese of Newark
The Hill's student newspaper is The Setonian
Seton Hall's student newspaper is The Setonian
We have Father Honeygosky
...which is much more fun to say than Father Figueiredo
We are the Griffins
They are the Pirates
We are Maroon and Gold
They are Blue and White
We have 19 sports
They have 12 sports
We have Pittsburgh
They have New York
We are nestled on 200 acres
They are nestled on 50 acres
I hope that you enjoyed reading the list as much as I enjoyed composing it. Let this be a fun fact lesson for you and do pass the word! Go Griffins!

Ashley,
I enjoyed your blog about the Seton Hill/Seton Hall compare/contrast list. I wanted to let you know that the Common Applicaton link was broken when I clicked it.

The only links that work in this entry are Griffins and The Setonian. The rest are broken, just an fyi.

Hi,
I was so pleased to read your compare and contrast list. I graduated from Seton Hill COLLEGE in 1980. To this day whenever I say that I went to Seton Hill I get oh, in New Jersey. I am going to print your list and carry it around with me.
Keep up the great work on the blog.
Leah

Thanks, Leah!
I am in the same boat you are so I can definitely relate to the confusion! Being a graduate and also representing the school, I hear it more times than not. I appreciate you checking out the blog! Keep in touch!

I think that when Seton Hill constructs its next residence hall that it should be named Seton Hall.

I am the Business and Advertising manager for the paper here at Seton Hill. I just wanted to say that the fact that both school newspapers are named The Setonian proves a HUGE problem for me when I'm talking to national advertisers because most are based out of NY so they automatically think of Seton Hall. I spend most of my time explaining to these companies where we are located! Thanks for the post. I'll make sure to hang on to this one!
