It's that time of year! Sleepover is here!
Tuesday, February 28th, the Admissions Office will be hosting its annual Spring Sleepover! I can’t even begin to tell you how great this event is!
When I was looking at colleges and universities, Seton Hill was one of the only schools that offered this event. It was definitely the deciding factor for me to choose SHU.
Sleepover is hosted during the week, this year it is over a Tuesday and Wednesday. Upon arriving to campus Tuesday evening, you will meet other sleepover guests and attend an activity on campus. You will then spend the evening with your host and they will show you ‘the ropes’ of Seton Hill. Wednesday, you will have the opportunity to sit in on a class of interest and also meet with your Admissions Counselor. Space is limited, so reserve your spot now! A pre-paid (non-refundable) fee of $10 will confirm your reservation. Let SHU be your final decision!

The Greatest Thing since Sliced Bread has Arrived!!
On the Seton Hill University website, you will see a new addition. Our full course catalog is now LIVE! On the left side of the page you will see a tab named CATALOG. You then click it and have access to our course catalog at your fingertips! The features of this are amazing! The information on line is broken down into Undergraduate Degrees, Graduate Degrees, Minors, and Certificate Programs and Other Offerings.
Say you are interested in being a Business Major. You would then proceed to choose Business under Undergraduate Degrees. You are then taken to a page that has a list of all the courses you will need to take to complete your degree. There is also a brief synopsis of the business program as well as a list of the faculty just for that major! When you click on a professor’s name, you will be provided with their contact information.
The most interesting thing (in my opinion) on the page is the course descriptions. When you are on the Business page you will see a list of courses. You can then click BU240 –International Business, for example, and the course description is right there for your viewing pleasure!
This is such a great tool for viewing our catalog online! It is very user friendly, and it is also great for the environmental friendly folks – no paper used!
Check it out!

Open House for the Child Development Center
Seton Hill has a hidden treasure on campus that is being showcased in an Open House on Saturday, February 11th.
The Child Development Center and Full Day Kindergarten are coordinated with the Education Department of Seton Hill. This Center benefits many individuals; including parents, the children and also students of Seton Hill who are involved in Early Childhood Education. Students get the opportunity to work along side professionals as well as gain experience in their field and not even have to leave campus!
The Center has been in operation since 1951 and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. To be accredited the programs must meet criteria in areas such as health, safety, curriculum, evaluation and environment just to name a few.
There have been many positive comments regarding the center.
Rebecca Lee, Director of Intercultural Student Services (SHU) said, “My child has grown exponentially throughout her two years at the CDC- socially, academically and spiritually- they truly care for the whole child at the Child Development Center.”
Open House for the Child Development Center will be from 1 – 3PM. The Kindergarten Open House will be from 12 – 2PM. For further information please call 724-830-1032 or 724-838-4258.

Go FISH...
Calling all bowlers!!! Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 18th! The 2nd Annual FISH Bowl will be making a splash at Main Bowling Center @ 3:00PM. We will be celebrating the 50’s at this year's bowl. We are hoping to have 16 teams participate with a captain that will be turning 50 to lead them to a win!
If you are turning the big 5 – 0 and would like to be a team captain, please contact Lois Harbison at ext. 4255 or at admit@setonhill.edu.
This year’s proceeds will benefit the Sisters of the Holy Family in New Orleans! Sister Alicia Costa, who represents the Sisters of the Holy Family here at Seton Hill, will be a team captain!
$20 gets you on a team, rents your bowling shoes, pays for pizza, AND gives a donation to the sisters! We have the potential to raise over $1100 for the sisters!! With your help we can make it happen! So, come out have fun and ‘bowl’ for a great cause!
Where did the idea for the FISH bowl come from? Well I am going to tell you! The FISH bowl is a derived from the FISH philosophy.
The FISH philosophy originated in the Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle, WA. You would think they would be known for their fish, but no! Their service is what attracts customers! The crew at Pike Place has a mission to give people an amazing experience and truly make the world a better place! They are dedicated to making the work place better! They have been so successful, consulting programs were created for businesses all over! Check it out!

Location, Location, Location!
Happy Groundhog Day! Seton Hill University is closer to the magical rodent than you think! We are nestled a little over an hour south-west from beautiful Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Unfortunately he saw his shadow this morning, so welcome 6 more weeks of winter! Ugh. This bizarre tradition actually started in Europe and was called Candlemas, a Christmas holiday, of course. They used a hedgehog for this seasonal prediction. Supposedly the Pilgrims brought this tradition over and since they couldn’t find a hedgehog in western, Pennsylvania, they chose the next best thing…the groundhog. My question is, why couldn’t they have chosen something more attractive and something less destructive than a groundhog? What do they really know anyway? They hibernate 8 months out of the year!
Going back to the “facts”, I would like to wish you all a Happy Groundhog Day and a wonderful 6 more weeks of winter!
Read more about this great holiday!
