Little did I know...
Being an alum you would think I would know the fun, hip places here in Greensburg. This past weekend, I went to St. Clair Park (right by of W. Otterman Street) to listen to a performance by the “Stage Right Sensations”. To be quite honest, I had no idea what encompassed this non-profit organization. One word…AWESOME.
Growing up in the lovely small town of New Bethlehem, PA, I was not exposed to the opportunities that the children of Greensburg (and every other well established town in the country) have.
There were organized sports and the jazz, tap, dance classes…but that was it. What was a girl to do?!
Stage Right is such a great organization for young children as well as the older children. This is Westmoreland County’s only professional musical theatre company AND school for the performing arts! I was so amazed at the talent that was on that stage! Not only could a student benefit from Seton Hill’s Visual and Performing Arts Department, but students could also utilize and “give back” to the community by participating with Stage Right. Check Stage Right out!

I agree Ashley. I moved away from this area for a few years, and when I returned, I was amazed at just how much this town has to offer. Shopping, theatre, an incredible museum, coffee houses, restaurants, and a great city planning organization that arranges all types of fun events. From the TGIF events every Friday organized by the Palace Theatre, Thursday Jazz at the Museum, and just last weekend Summer in the City (music, events, food, stuff for kids). We are very fortunate to live in a community that emphasizes cultural activities. The concerts all summer long in the park on Friday’s and the film series on Saturday’s are also a blast! And, SHU will be a huge part of that as we break ground on our new Center for the Performing Arts. So much to do, so little time to do it.

My kids go to almost every one of Stage Right's free half-hour performances at the Greensburg library, and I caught their Wizard of Oz a couple years ago. I agree -- the Greensburg arts community, and SHU students who wish to participate in it, both have a lot to look forward to.

The library where I work has great performances by Stage Right, too.
I keep up the website, so if anyone is interested in seeing one of their shows free check out the performance dates here.
