Catholic Identity at SHU

When sitting down and talking with students, I often ask, “What aspect of Seton Hill brought you hear today?” I often get, “you have an amazing [insert athletic team here] team”, or “you are one of the few schools that offer [insert major here].” Very rarely have I heard, “I am choosing SHU because it is a Catholic institution.”
Seton Hill was founded by the Sisters of Charity in1918. Speaking on behalf of Seton Hill, coming to a Catholic institution doesn’t mean that you are required to attend Mass, or that there are ‘strict rules’; now there are rules, but there are rules at every school!

The coming together of students, faculty and staff to worship and celebrate has throughout its history been a vital part of the Catholic heritage of SHU. We are a welcoming, learning, serving, and celebrating community. Seton Hill is an all-encompassing, welcoming community that celebrates it diversity of its members in both faith and culture.
I invite you to come and experience our university and feel first hand the truly welcoming warm atmosphere. I promise you have never felt anything like it.
