Samantha in Seville!

My experience in Seville, Spain has been amazing. At first I had wanted to hop on the next flight home and forget about it. But then before I knew it, the first month went by and I was having a great time.
It was a little frustrating at first because I could understand and speak only a little Spanish. Soon that changed and I was able to talk and understand my host mother and we would talk about stuff that appeared on the news, which is all she ever watches.

While in Europe it is more affordable to travel while abroad. I have been to Tavira (Portugal), London, and Paris. This doesn't even include the other places I have visited in Spain, which include Ronda, Cacéres, Merida, Trujillo, Barcelona, Cordoba, and Madrid. All these places are amazing. It was great to live with a family over here because I got to know more of the customs and practice Spanish much more than if I had lived in an apartment (I also got corrected a lot more as well).

The best thing about this is that Seton Hill helped me get here. Many of the other student talk about how their schools don’t help with the financial aid and they had to fight to even get some. Seton Hill didn’t cause any problems and even helped with a study abroad scholarship. It is amazing how helpful everyone has been and the hardest part was actually getting the courage to get on the plane to come. I went on this study abroad with a company called CEA, who is affiliated with Seton Hill, and at each of the cities they have an office with people to help adjust and talk, not to mention plan activates.

Online Courses on the Rise

Here at Seton Hill, online courses are definitely becoming more popular. I am assuming this increase is due to the world wide interest in obtaining a degree online. For me personally, when I begin my MBA in the fall, it will definitely be something that I would be interested in because of the extensive traveling that I do for recruiting.
This entry was prompted by the article I recently read on msn.com, called Online-course Enrollment on the Rise. “Roughly one in six students enrolled in higher education took at least once online course last fall…” This increase is up nearly 40% than last year.
I think online courses are a great tool for individuals to use. In the past, someone might not have thought about taking college courses because there was no way to fit it into their busy schedule, but now getting a degree has become a little easier.
With the many benefits that online courses provide, I hope that attending a university and physically sitting in a class doesn’t go by the wayside. Getting the personal one-on-one attention and the comradery is something just as valuable as your degree.

A Student's Experience with SHU's Study Abroad Program!

My name is Justin Starkey and I am currently in my second year at Seton Hill and I play lacrosse. My study abroad experience has definitely been a time in my life that I will never forget. The sights I have seen and things I have experienced couldn’t have become a reality without Seton Hill’s help.

My friend who goes to Gannon University asked me if I would like to study abroad with him last October. After agreeing, I then went that next week into the study abroad office at SHU and got the ball rolling.

Since I have been here in Ireland, I have seen so many beautiful sights. I have also visited Amsterdam and London.
I am currently in the program called CEA (Cultural Experiences Abroad) which is a great group to study abroad through; that SHU participates in. We have done so many things; like surfing on Lahinch Beach, in west Ireland, about a month ago. I also found myself singing "Take me out to the Ball Game" to a whole castle during a medieval dinner. Anyways, I have tons more to say of the sights and activities I experienced and I will tell more about in future posts.
I would also like to add that I am so gracious of all of those who have helped me along the way!!
