So Washington Irving is more famous for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"…
Has anyone happened to notice the severe similarities between the relationships in "Sleepy Hollow" and Irving's other story, "The Wife?"
I have personally read "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" before, and I find it so funny how there is such a similarity between the relationship of Leslie and Mary in "The Wife" and Ichabod and Katrina in "Sleepy Hollow." With both pairs, we see the situation of a lowerclass man trying to make a relationship work with an upperclass. Being that both works take place in America, this is appropriate due to the typical dream of those immigrants coming to the nation - one of a country where anything is possible and the streets are paved with gold.
