[Home] [Act of Misdirection] [Frozen] [Cheeseshop][Caffeination]
"Frozen" reminded me of how I feel when I am stressed out at the end of the semester. Just as the student gets lost in the classrooms and offices of the school, the student is glued to the school--frozen in it without any way of escaping no matter how much walking one does. While I didn't get to the solution, which is becoming a trend in my interactive fiction experience, I found the story that much more intriguing because I did not finish. I was frozen too.
I enjoyed the description of the other students the most: "the few remaining students, shackled like slaves...appear almost frozen in the glare of the flourescent lights." I can almost see my friends and I at the computer. What great writing--such powerful phrasing. Showing, not telling.
In the genre description on the site, a hopeful message jumped out: "a large proportion of amateur game writers are college students." Perhaps some of the students in EL 236, the class I am mentoring will one day be categorized with the writers on this page. Yay!
