A Streetcar Named Desire

What is wrong with the women? They let themselves get treated horribly and still stay with these men. They need to get their heads together and stick up for themselves. Did all women get treated like crap back then? It sure seems as if a lot did.

I feel your frustrations! It does seem that way especially in the texts that have been chosen to be read for the course. (I’m NOT suggesting that Dr. Jerz had a hidden agenda)
These women are treated wrong, but why isn’t their responsibility to remove themselves from such situations? Or in Blanches case STOP making the situations occur! She to me is a manipulator and instigator. Her sensual actions constantly get her in trouble, and cause her more pain. The Hotel Flamingo, having relations with that student, trying to seduce Mitch, and then it comes back and hurts her on a very personal level when she is sexually assaulted by Stanley.

I have been wondering about that too! I've been thinking about doing some investigating on the treatment of woman during that time period, you never know. Maybe woman were supposed to be submissive no matter what.

I hear ya!! I think that this time period was when the phrase stand by your man ( no matter what ) came about. As I stated in Stephanies blog If we were to get a glimpse of other fights that had occured between the couples then we would have saw Stanley putting Stella down and convincing her that she could do no better than him.
