Wallace Stevens BIO blog

Wallace Stevens -- Jerz: American Lit II (EL 267)"A highly disciplined businessman, , he felt that poets who held university positions and read to women's groups were "kept men." Stevens seems like a very complicated and reserved man who had little time for superfluous, flowery poetry. I look forward to reading/discussing these poems to see if they are as layered as he is made out to be.

"Poetry, in Steven's mind, is "the supreme fiction..." This line shows that Stevens writes poetry that is the ultimate truth or somehow conveys the truth within a message in his words. Like Brenda writes, Steven's does not have time for flowery writing. It seems though that when one reads Steven's poetry they must work a little harder to decipher the meanings which could lead to "exhaustive classroom analysis." I too, like Brenda, am very interested in discussing Steven's poems in depth to reveal some of the meanings in his poetry.

I'm starting to get really excited about the poetry slam readings... I can't wait to see what meanings people derive from these works, either, nor how they express them orally.
