---t Beer Pong

November 18, 2003

Leave it to me to cause more campus when it comes to clubs planning events. Hands of Hope is sponsoring a Root Beer Pong Tournament on Thursday at 8:30pm in Sullivan. The prize is $50 and the entry fee is $2 per person. The money raised will go to buy toys for the Annual Hands of Hope Toys for Tots drive.

Advertising on campus really kicked off last night after the meeting. I purchased window chalk and balloons. The window chalk went toward writing "Root Beer Pong" on many glass doors on campus. The balloons were blown up and written on with markers to also advertise the event.

Today, I got a furious phone message from our advisor complaining about our choice of advertising. I returned the phone call. The question he asked is can you explain the phrase "Beer Pong." I said that everything said Root Beer and I didn't really think about people erasing the "Root" to make the event inappropriate. The whole purpose of the advertising was to be something fun and different. After going to SHC/U for 4 years, I have become immune to flyers. I wanted to promoted the event creatively.

What do you think of the event? Are you for or against this type of advertising?

I think its a great way to advertise though you might want to try somethign a lil harder to rub off than chalk next time.

Nothing to stop people from doing what they want... even complaining about how immature, stupid, and awful it is.

Perhaps (even though I'm 100% against using paper signs to advertise because they get thrown away
>:( more often than recycled) paper signs that were slightly more difficult to alter would have been a better bet.

I am for this type of advertising. I am against the immature individuals that have to ruin the creativity of others. Kudos for the idea, Brian.

I thought that this event was an great idea, that is why I have supported you from the beginning. People at shu tend to be immature, and there is no way to prevent vadalism, even fliers have been ripped down or torn up. I believe its the idea behind the point, not what happens in the end.

I am an RA at SUNY Cortland and Beer pong is a major event on my campus so i was trying to get a root beer pong tourney going but i have been receiving negative comments from other RA's across campus for "endorsing" alcohol abuse. do u have any suggestions on how to counter these negative people.
