Langston Hughes is one of my favorite poets, and this poem is one of my favorites. America suppose to be the land of the free and all this other crap, but we still go through nonsense such as racism, prejudicism, and other ism's. I liked how he mentioned that America is not just one persons land, it's everybody's land, because we all faught to be here.
Posted by CarlDesphy at April 13, 2005 12:20 AMI agree if America is so great and we stand out from everybody else then why do we have so many problems. America is a great place to live compared to other places don't get me wrong, but America isn't perfect. There are problems here like you said and many more can be added to that list. I really liked that you brought up the topic of it is everybodies land. I completely agree with that too. I don't understand why whites, well some whites, think they deserve to be here more than any other race. Everbody deserves to be here.

Its true though, and Im going to sound repeditory (I might have made up that word, not sure) but we need to worry about ourselves before everyone else because its pretty bad with everything going on. Your right, everyone deserves to be here.
Posted by: Mary Bonner at April 13, 2005 6:51 PMYeah I agree with you, I wish America would stop with all the "ism's" as you called it. America would be great if everyone was treated equal.
Posted by: Jared Grubor at April 13, 2005 8:05 PMI completely agree with all of you. The "poster" of America is that everyone is treated equally, if you are poor and sick you are taken in, and that you are free. Obviously with our history, that is not the case
Posted by: Kayla Lukacs at April 13, 2005 9:17 PMI totally agree. I think america would be so much better if we all were treated as equals.
