This essay basically talks about the lack of equality between white and black Americans, even today. I am having trouble coming up with an agenda item, but basically I feel that the only way for whites and blacks to have completely equal power, they both need to have similar power roles in American society. I personally do not think that there is any difference and I think the one way they will gain equal status is if an African American is elected as President of the US. Many think Powell would be a wonderful president, but I have also heard, "he would be the first African American President and the first African American President assinated." I guess my agenda item would be, do you think it will ever be possible for African Americans to gain the level of equality people have been striving for for decades? Or do you think there will always be racist people there to stop it from happening?
Posted by CarolineJones at February 26, 2005 01:38 PM | TrackBackIn our world, there will always be racist people trying to undermine the success of any type of equality. The only way for our society to get through tough times in equality, is to ignore the views of the racists people. Another way to fix this problem would be to educate our students more about other cultures to show that they are not different from thier own cultures.

Look at how long it took us to get this far. But its progress for sure and thats awesome. Everyone needs to realize that noone is the same. Even white people are different from other white people. Everyone is different ethnic cultures and races. Its impossible for everyone to be the same.

Any job and position should have a person that is worthy of that spot. If an African American is worthy for the job I want that person to have that position. On the other hand if the person isn't qualified I don't want a person to get the job just because of there race. I don't care what color a person is everyone is a human to me, I just think that the best person for the job or position should get the job. Race should not even play a factor in who gets the job.

Posted by: Ashley Neil at February 28, 2005 08:10 PMI think that AA can gain the equality that they have so strived for, i however doubt that it will be done anytime soon. AA have wanted to feel like they belong for many years in society. As with personal experience with being in college, I am faced atleast once everyday where I feel inferior to "Americans" due to ethnicity.

I guess AA saw how their ancestors were being treated so therefore they feel that it is their duty to let white ppl know how they feel.
