The author is talking about Rap and Hip Hop and how it is playing a major role on our society today; also how it is connected to people's actions. I agree with the author when she says that Rap and Hip Hop have a major impact not only on the artists themselves, but also on other artists and and the people that listern to their music. Most black rap artists now a days all rap and free style about is sex, drinking, clubbing and smoking because that is some of the things they consider to be "cool" and "off the hook." They are sending out a whole new message especially to the kids who think that they are also cool and want to be just like them when they grow up.
Joan Morgan also talks about how most back women are single parents either because they loose their husbands to violence or because of teen pregnancy and so as result end up taking care of kids themselves.
I would definitely say that this essay is a question of Interpretation, value Consequence and Policy
Question of Interpretation:
This signifies that most artists are sending out a bad message to the kids that listern to their music. But would the artists be able to sell as much of their albums if they decided to start rapping about a whole new thing? Would People still like these artists? Could it be that the artists are rapping or singing about this because it is what the people want to hear?
Question of Value:
I definitely would say that this is not good because children are the ones who learn quickly and they are the ones that are likely to become like this when they grow up.
Question of consequence:
I believe that the kids who listern to these albums are most likely to change and get affected by this, especially those who do not have enough home training. They might start doing bad thing and along the way grow into it.
Question of Policy:
I think the only thing that can be done now is if parents started to monitor the things that their kids watched and did. But this might not really be a solution to the problem because some parents actually watch and listern to these videos and albums and are actually in favor of it. The world is such a corrupt place and is getting worse as the years go by and it would take ages to fix this problem or there is a possibility that it might not be fixed at all.
This essay shows how people sometimes are not afraid about the things that other people think about them. Marcus talks about a lesbian mother Kathleen Boatwright who finds out her orientation and adapts to her new environment. After she decides thats she wants to be with the woman that she loves, she is rejected by her family and is forced to start a new life by herself. She looses everything that she had even her children. She later on regains custody of her children and starts her new life with her lesbian partner.
I would say that this is a question of value
Question of value:
I do not think that this is good idea because now her kids are forced to live with two parents of the same sex. If she knew she was a lesbian, why did she have to get married in the first place? Now, her family has abandoned her and i think that your family is the closest people to you in the world. Like the saying says: "Blood is thicker than water"
This is about a man's success; how he accomplished the things that he wanted to do and setting his mind to achieving this. He succeeded from becoming poor to becoming successful and starting his own companies. This shows that if people believe in themselves and put their minds to whatever they want to do and set goals for themselves; they would become successful in life.
This is about how a poor young man uses his talents to help other people. Dick a young man saved a little boy from drowning; he knew that he was a good swimmer and that he had to do what was right and save the little boy's life. His courage and concern in return earned him a reward.
This shows that when people show concern and help other people, it not only helps the poeple that they help, but it also come back to them and rewards them in a positive way. I think people who help other people in situations where they have to risk their own lives are very courageous. People should always help other people in situations where they know that they can do something.
