This essay was gotten from a book that talks about Racism in the country. The author here feels that there are a lot of reasons why African Americans and White Americans cannot get along, because some of them still have some gruge or disdain against eachother. He feels that the major reason is that some of them might still hate each other. He believes that the more African Americans lost innocence, the more they continued to gain power.
My agenda item is that do you think that the more a race is victimized and discriminated against, it is the more they are likely to gain more power and knowledge?
The Community service that i chose to do was to clean St Joseph's Chapel. I know that most people would say that cleaning is not the most fun thing to do, but i actually enjoyed cleaning the chapel and if i had the chance, i would definitely do it over again. I am catholic, and in my church back in Nigeria, my mother and some other mothers in the church used to clean the church almost every saturdays; they used to take turns. Me and my sisters used to go and help my mother clean the church when she told us that she needed help. Any church is the house of God and i definitely think that it is good to keep churches cleaned regularly. After i had helped clean the chapel, i really felt happy knowing that i had done something that was right and benefited me. This would always be a memorable experience for me
Crittenden in this essay talks about people's view towards marriage and what the ideal marriage should be like. The author is arguing that people believe that marriage is supposed to be forever but these are still the same people that do not stay in these marriages. As a result, families are being affected especially wives and children. My agenda item is that how should families survive when they have been broken up?
This essay is a typical example of how the absence of a father figure in children's lives, make them tend to lack in discipline and respect for other people. I am not saying that mothers cannot raise children on their own because, there have been many instances where children have been raised by a single parent and have turned out to be well disciplined, but i feel that children are being better raised up with two parents instead of one. Because this most times benefits them more than it would if they were raised by a single parent.
I think the authors main point about the article is that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trangender relationships are becoming a part of some people's everyday life as well as their families. In my opinion, i agree with the author when he says that families are supposed to be based on heterosexual relationships only, i know this for a fact because if families were all based on this, the media and all these TV talk shows would not be talking about them as much they are talking about them now.
I am glad that i was able to go to the Martin luther King Jr's response. I really enjoyed everything about the ceremony, the performances by the dancers. I also liked when they were asking people different questions about what they felt people could do to keep the dream alive. i also like the responses that people gave. I think that was really a good way to celebrate the memory of Martin Luther King's birthday.
