Tales of Symphonia
I have recently completed Tales of Symphonia, the first serious attempt at an RPG for the GCN that I have thoroughly enjoyed. This game originally caught my attention because it was created by Namco, the same company responsible for the Harvest Moon series. After buying a copy and trying it for myself, I soon discovered that the praise it was receiving was not merely hype - this game offers a classic roleplaying experience with excellent replay value and an emotionally-supercharged storyline.
Tales of Symphonia boasts a wide variety of appealing traits:
• 40+ hours of gameplay.
• Nine playable characters, each with his or her own well-developed personality and background.
• Some great humor spread and mixed throughout the game.
• An extensive array of collectible items, minigames, and sidequests.
• A highly unique battle-system which works in real time, keeping the action fast-paced, frantic, and fun.
• Magnificent quality video and audio (which I enjoyed with Surround Sound).
• Highly detailed 3D environments and special effects.
• One of the most addictive character-development and enhancement systems that I have ever encountered in an RPG.
... In short, if you have a GCN and love RPGs like I do, definitely give this one consideration. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

This game was so freaking awesome. I agree with some of you that Lloyd and Colette should kiss. But my favorite character is Sheena. I'm also writing my own sequel. I decided that Sheena needs someone but not Lloyd so I'm pairing her off with Regal. Regal will just eventually move on from the whole Alicia thing. I also found out somewhere though that Regal is 33. That's the only problem since Sheena's only 19. But I'm gonna do it anyways and I'll just have them really, truly fall in love so no one will care about the age difference.lol. Sadly I'll probably never have a wii so I'm not gonna be able to play the sequel.Damn, I want to be able to play it so badly. If only the sequel was on GCN. :( And there were parts of the game that I thought should be different, if only sheena and regal fell in love in the game and it would give me some ideas of how to make the age difference not matter. But anyways anyone looking for a good rpg should play this game.

I got that game a year after it came out for christmas and I got to tell you. When I saw that I had that game and Zelda I didn't really care much for the zelda. I immediately picked that game up and put it in thing "wonder what this is like." After beating this game the first time around it easily replaced my favorite GCN game "Zelda Collection and Master Quest."
I began spending the next year playing the game every afternoon and I played it so much that nothing could beat me. I defeated Mithos and Yggdrassil in record time, have 98% total items collection, complete figure collection, 99% monster list collection, 90% titles, completed all alternate sequences, talked to every one of the players in Flanoir except for Zelos and got all of my characters to max level with the best EX skills in more than one game.
In total, I have beaten this game more than about 40 times in the last 2 years I have had it and I have taken much more care of this game than any of my other games. I have no scratches on it and the case is in great condition.
I rate this game a 10/10 because it is a simply marvelous game for the GCN. If you do not have this game and you love RPG like I do and like to go on a classis "Save The World" story then you must play this. It will have you hooked from beginning to end and keep you begging for more.
Namco is also hinting at a sequel for the Nintendo Wii which will be part of a spin off series of Tales. It will be called the Swords of Series. There is a Swords of Legendia coming out but right now the Swords of Symphonia is just a rumor.
I hope that Namco isn't joking around about this games sequel because I really enjoy playing this game. I also wanted to see what it was like when the worlds were joined again.

That game was SOOOOOO Friggin AWESOME Ive played it like THOUSANDS of times but i never actually get tired of it.
-although i do agree that the end of the game was kinda sucky.
but still........
the game really makes up for the sucky ending.
all the sidequests before you beat the game are pretty cool too.
there are so many that i still havent done.
but each of my files has something i havent done on my other files
like one of my files has the strongest weapon for Lloyd, another one of my files has all the titles for everyone, another one of my files has Maxwell (the last summon spirit) on it, and.........
Overall THE BEST GAME IVE EVER PLAYED-and also on gamecube pretty much the only game system i have.
Still i cant get over the fact that it was a lot like final fantasy 7. but i loved final fantasy 7 so its ok Xb

I loved this game. I've played it 3 times now. Abyssion sucks but hey... it's just a matter of stealing as many all divides as you can carry from the fakes. I don't know how you can say that anime cutscenes didn't appear until 40+ hours into the game because I beat the game in less than 30. It's a 20+ hour long game... so unless you got lost or stood around and leveled for a ridiculously long time you should have gotten one long before then. My only gripe about this game isn't about the game itself. People rent this game for their kids and they destroy it. it's not a kids' game... it may look like it but there is a large quantity of profanity. I've had to rent 3 copies of it and none of them have worked through the disk changeover. I ended up borrowing from a friend. Say no to letting kids destroy games.

Omg!this game is the best in the world, if they don't come out with a sequel, i will seriously kill something! like, when lloyd says that his next quest is to collect all of the expheres i could have sworn that it was going to be the theme of the sequel. besides, i really thought it was sad that lloyd would never see his true father again, and it would be awsome if they were reunited to fight an evil guy or something. I WANT THERE TO BE A SEQUEL! :'(
This would be my idea of a perfect sequel: Lloyd marries colette, is reunited with Kratos, presea and genis become gf and bf, and all the expheres are collected except like, some evil thing, and then they meet this new half elf person and fight the evil! AND WIN!
P.S. i REALLY enjoyed this game and i would recommend it to anyone looking for an emotional fantasy.
P.P.S Kratos is my fav character

I've beaten the game 4 times on the same file...
IT'S THAT ADDICTING! I just beat the game the 4th time ten minutes ago!!!!
I hate the ending!!! No LloydxColette kiss!!!!
And whats with Kratos going with Derris-Kharlan!?
I'm starting to write my own sequel(about a year after the game. (Lloyd is about 19, just so ya know!)
More like i hated the fact that the game was over, so i redid it again and again.
BUT YOU DON'T EVER GET TO FIGHT WITH LLOYD OR KRATOS'S WINGS!!! THAT SUCKS!!! And what's with getting the materail blades at the very end!!! No fair!! *Sniff* *Sob* *Sob*. I wanna fight w/ wings!!! *Sob*
They need to make a movie out of that game...imagen ...oh, and promote LloydxColette, ZelosxSheena and give more background of YuanxMartel, Mithos, KratosxAnna, and RegalxAlicia...
THEY'D BETTER MAKE A MOVIE!!!! PLEASE!

I think Tales of Symphonia is the best game I've ever played. I'm kind of addicted to it. I've been writting a book on it adding some parts I think they should of added. Like Colette tells Lloyd she loves him alot and Sheena's jealous of Colette and tells her. I think in the sequal Lloyd and Colette should get married and they meet a new enemy or something. I think they should make a sequal to it with the same characters.

someone asked what the tree was called and i remember somewhere that the tree was like you wanted named after mithos but not exactly, it was named with his last name, yggdrasil, which if you research a little is the name of the world tree in some ancient mythology... i forgot which.

My freind was the character desing for colette. Her uncle worked on it and made her into the main character. Lol shes as goofy and clumsy in real life as in the game.

i absolutely LOVED this game. i borrowed it from a friend excpecting it to be a stupid game with a lame ass story, but after 60 unbelievably addictive hours i changed my opinion. after i finished and gave it back, i couldnt stop thinking about it, and i plan on buying it soon. but the absolute worst part of this game was the extremely annoying puzzles that lasted hours, such as the meltokio sewers, the welgaia gravity rooms, and when entering heimdall. other than that i loved everything about this game (except the ending, kinda sucked).

I have beaten the game and all (tos). It is probablly the best RPG I have ever played. My question is in the last cut scene Lloyd gets to name the tree, but you don't get to hear what he names it. Does anyone know what it is?
My guess is Symphonia.(or maybe Mithos) :} kekeke

Having just finished playing the game in under a week (total game time a little less than six hours) I can finally say that I highly reccommend this game to anyone looking for a good game on the cube........ I agree about the ending, but the rest of game made up for it, don't you think?
Happy Playing,
Sapphire

The game kicks all ass. It's even better than the game some people term as it's "sister" Baten Kaitos. Though I'll admit both games have their perks and flaws.
For instance Baten Kaitos has better graphics, whereas Tales of Symphonia has better gameplay.
Both games have some pretty unique stuff and the sidequests are both fun and difficult. I'm still playing Baten Kaitos, and I've found myself repeatedly playing Tales of Symphonia.
In closing notes, if Namco decided to somehow merge the two it would be a killer game. Such is the speculation of an insane person. IE myself... Thank you for at least listening

I LOVED THIS GAME! I don't think enough people know about (excluding the other commenters of course.) Mention Zelda just about everywhere and you'll get a reaction, but with this game it just doesn't happen. Sigh. Are you sure there isn't a sequel or anything? I though I heard of a prequel eventually coming here...but maybe it was just rumors.

Overall, Best RPG I ever played. Sure there wern't that many cutscenes, but eh, I loved it. You got the cocky swordsman, the ladies man, the sexy ninja, the clutz, the kid genius, the silent bad ass, the smart professor, the cold ax girl, and the ex-prisoner. Whew, what a team. It was pretty long, had many sidequests and had a kewl foe( Mithos, but Mithos Final Form was kinda stupid. =\ ).

I, too, loved this game. It was definetly one of my favorite RPG games i have played, behind FF VII and FF X. The only thing that i did not like was that it was not very long, took me only 35 hours to complete. I did not do any of the Ultimate Weapon sidequests and my characters only reached about level 65, but the final confrontation with Mithos was extremely EASY. This game still ranks in the top five RPG's i have ever played, but i would have appreciated a longer game with a harder final battle.

I loved this game so much! i know what you mean, i wish there was a sequel to this, but that is highly unlikely, which is sad because this is the best RPG for the GCN, like there'll be anything else ever like this! there is a 'Tales of Legendia' that might come out, but for the Playstation 2 (i think, if not 3) and its not the ToS story continued! Not even the same charcters (sp)!

Yeah, I know what you mean... I've been waiting forever for a good GCN RPG to hit the shelves, and this one answered my prayers.
I can understand what you mean about the ending being weak, although considering how childish Colette acts throughout the entire game (despite the fact that she's 16) it probably would have been out-of-character for her.
Personally, I prefer Sheena, anyways. ;P
The scene where someone knocks on your door at night in Flanoir... If you choose not to answer it the first time (and sometimes the second time, too) then one of the other characters will show up and start talking to Lloyd outside (I got Sheena).
Then, at Origin's seal, whichever character showed up is the one that talks to Lloyd about going on a journey to collect all the Exspheres after the "quest" is over, and she/he is also the one who gets possessed by Mithos at Origin's seal.
And at one point, Sheena (in my game) made a remark about her and Lloyd getting together (nothing big, but still) so I'm guessing that the developers wanted the player to be able to choose which character Lloyd develops the strongest relationship with.
If you beat the game, try starting a new one with the "Final Save" file that it had you create (if you wait for the credits to roll and finish)... Then you get to buy all kinds of cool bonuses with the GRADE you earned, such as 10x Experience or Ex Gems (which lets you keep all of your Ex Gems and carries them over into the next game, including the Ex Gem MAX that you get from Mithos in the final battle).
Glad to see someone else enjoyed this game as much as I did. :) It may be a stretch, but I'm still hoping for a sequel.

I loved it too. I just finished it today, it took me 83 hours. and the last 5 hours I cheated with an Action Replay to max out my characters stats. a truly great game, and I am sad because this game took about 4 years to make and there wont be another good RPG for GCN; much less a sequel. The ending was weak, Lloyd and Colette didnt kiss or anything, they didnt even say whether or not they loved each other. The anime cutscenes didnt start popping up until 50+ hours into the game, and they were few and far between. Graphics were great, except the characters got a little out of focus when not in the center of the screen or in the distance, intentional, but uneccesary. Overall the best game for the system, and I want more like it, but I know most developers don't want to take a financial risk on the GCN. :(
