The news nowadays.
"Readers are increasingly aware that something is wrong with the way the press is reporting crime and violence."
If they are becoming more aware, then why don't they do something about it? I know the media is all about getting the 'ratings' nowadays, but why can't they include some genuinely good news that affects many? I don't care if some lady birthed 8 babies at the same time. That doesn't affect me. What about the good news like, "Reduction in the number of starving people in Africa." or something. I think the media is governing our lives, and giving us stories that we shouldn't care about, but it is presented so that we do.
I talked to my father about this quote, and he went on to say that he has seen the degression of the news as the years have passed. The news used to be exciting, and fun. It would be a time where one could sit down, find out what's going on in America, (both good and bad), and absorb. It's not the same now. All we care about anymore are sex scandals, who's using _____ drug, who's trying to commit suicide, etc. It's irrelevant, and we need to realize it.

I also think that the media is governing our lives by presenting us with empty stories that sell. As far as the woman that birthed 8 babies, she birthed them the day before I had my son so every year they do a big story on them to monitor their progress and slap their pictures all over the magazines. SHe took fertility drugs for Christ Sakes and got a fucking minivan, free food, diapers, cloths, the mom got braces and who knows what else. And now they are rich becuse the dad is a motivatinal speaker. What about the kid they had before the fab 8 came along? She never even makes her way into the pictures. She's probably on herone and prostituting just to have an identity. They should cover a story about me every year because I actually had to pay for my diapaers and formula-my parents paid for my braces. Anyhoo, I know what your dad is saying. The news has become irrelevant and that is something that is something that aspiring journalists need to learn-News is irrelevent 101

Every so often one comes across a story that emphasizes the good things in the state of the world. For instance, more people than ever are governing themselves under democracy -- and with democracy and the free press comes the journalist's ability to tell the truth without interference.
