Claim/Data/ Warrant
Claim:
Cleopatra's desire for an easy exit with no physical suffering such as a cobra-bite inflicts is elegantly achieved.
Data:
According to one authority, the shortest period required for death to supervene following a bite from the Egyptian cobra is fifteen minutes though a healthy victim might survive for several hours.
In the play, Cleopatra kills herself with two snakes. Therefore, the effect of her dying is faster.
Warrant:
Cleopatra would have rather died than been shown off as a prize in Rome. She wanted to die and die fast so she used the asps. It says in the article that the real snake's venom wouldn't have produced a rapid result that fast. Cleopatra used two snakes to make death come faster.
