The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock

Eliot, ''The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'' -- Jerz: Intro to Literary Study (EL150)

This poem took me a while to understand but I think it is about procrastination, analysis, and confusion. I think this guy in the poem (which I do side with Amanda and feel it is a poem and not a song) thinks he has all the time in the world to tell this girl how he feels.

And should I then presume?
And how should I begin?

I feel here that he is analyzing what to do too much. I do this all the time (not just with people that I have feelings for) and by the time I know what to do I have to rush to do it the way I want to. It's aggravating in a sense but I know what I want to do.

It's human to be scared to tell someone how you feel. You feel doubtful on your part but there is a risk in everything.
