I've been a space geek since I was a kid. When I was in D.C. recently for a conference, I finally got to see the real Space Shuttle Enterprise, which never actually went into space, but was carried into the air on the back of a NASA jet, and released in order to test the landing systems.
My brother pointed out that part of the front left wing (on the right in this head-on view) has been removed, so NASA could do tests in connection with the investigation of the loss of the Columbia orbiter.
