Jerz: Writing for the Internet (EL 236)

Lehre, ''MySpace: The Movie''

Watch it on youtube.

We won't screen this movie in class, so please watch it beforehand. It's only about 15 minutes long. Does it support, challenge, or modify your own perception of online culture? Explain. Do you have any personal experiences that you think would have made a good segment?.

After viewing "MySpace: The Movie" yesterday, my opinion of online writing/webpages was altered somewhat. Online sites can be problematic at times (such as when your significant other finds risque pictures of you with someone else). The 'poses' users choose to put on their sites can also be highly inappropriate. My opinion of it all is that highly valuable content is out there, but the ridiculous stuff must be sorted through first.

I agree with you and the blind date chapter reminded me so much of all those people who go on dates with people on the internet and can't figure out why they're not meeting who they expected too. Everyone should be educated on how to blog and publish their thoughts with some tact.

it's the new drug of our generation...it's as addictive to people as crack.

Honestly....this comment isn't going to be very tactful...because i'm blunt. That was ridiculously stupid. It did nothing for me. I wanted to quit watching it shortly after the opening scene. Yes, Katie, it can be problematic, but only if people make it so. There is no need for people to pose suggestive poses which may give them a reputation of some sort, and there is no need for them to post lewd photos that their significant other may find. If people do post these things, they made the bed, they really should sleep in it too. If people are going to make the decision to put something up that may jeopordize their reputation, relationship, etc. then i think that they deserve whatever consequences may occur.
