I would say that it supports the idea of how I feel about online culture. profiles are left to the imagination somewhat of an ego trip for some, of course people are going to lie about who they are is that easier? what are the odds of really meeting a particular individual physically? communities like so are used to tease and flirt, harmless to some, people have to seperate this from reality and use it as sort of as fantasy, when you cross those boundaries that's where the trouble begins.so yes, I do feel that online communities should be used for sheer amusement.

It is what it is....online community.....yes, people may present themselves differently and simply speaking, they put themselves in a position to have certain assumptions made about them which may or may not cause consequences, however, perhaps people should take the chance to really get to know those people instead of judging them based on their online persona.

Here's my comment but it's really my blog entry but I haven't been able to post it because I have to get a new password:
Karissa’s article portrayed the double lives people seem to live on and off line very well. It is hard to really know a person just because they sign up for a particular little group or check the box in horse-lovers or keg-stand champs. Just as Bob may have been a good student in real life, he has now put himself into a category that could be open to criticism or admiration for people who aspire to be the ultimate party boy. Whatever the case, what you say really can and will be used against you. I think it’s a shame that you can’t be yourself without criticism or that people pretend to be someone online that they think other people will like. This goes back to elementary school days when everyone was trying to buy the cool pencil box to get in with the right crowd. Unfortunately, many college students are insecure enough to continue this habit. Countless amounts of my friends have gotten creepy e-mails from pedophiles and other scum because of silly comments they made on MySpace without even thinking. Karissa poses an interesting question about whose rights are really being violated. Everyone should have freedom of speech, but if they can’t use it properly do they deserve the consequences? I see both sides which is why I don’t have profiles or even bother e-mailing people. I have a phone and have been friends with some of the people who lived next door since my kindergarten days so all I have to do is yell across my yard or make a quick call. I think it’s a great tool for people who want to keep in touch with someone far away or someone you don’t see often, but I am just not ready to put myself out there yet. There is enough drama in real life and I don’t feel like wasting my time typing it when I can be out dealing with it in person. I do commend people for opening up and making life easier for them and their friends, but I think we all need to learn the proper etiquette in internet writing and really think over what we say before we hit “Send” or “Post.”
