Ex 2: Personal Biography of Writing Technology

How has developing technology affected the way you write?

Your parents and your teachers probably all remember the first time they used a computer. Do you? Ask a teacher of your parents' generation about the smell of ditto machine ink; or, type a letter-perfect blog entry on a manual typewriter (and post a digital photo of it to your blog); or, find some other creative way to explore the ways in which technological developments have shaped the way we think about writing..

My blog is finally up and running but I am way out of practice on formatting and none of my pictures went through, so sorry for the blunders. blogs.setonhill.edu/ErinWaite

once again I am going to show my age. I can remember being young and playing onmy friends computer I believe it was a Commadore 64 and back then we thought it was one of the greatest inventions of all time and we were just playing games on it ,they were soo "square", not like today's video games. I do remember the large sheets of paper that had the green lines on it and it was attached to the other pieces in large boxes.Or times that my mom used a chage card, she would sign the top copy and it would trace underneath by using carbon, a black/ blue ink that got really messy. My mother was a secretary in the "eighties" so she was prone to using oversized typewriters and fat, small screened word processors. Being a child in the "Reagan era" I had seen new technology be created, it seems soo prehistoric by today's standards. How about a game of Atari?

I, too, seem to be having blogging troubles...So I will share my thoughts with the class here. I have always been somewhat technologically challenged, so any kind of advancement never ceases to amaze me. I still remember the first time I used a computer, though-I was in middle school, and I could hardly browse the internet without having to refer to the user's manual (or my father). Still, I miss the days of Pacman...

Jeremy, I took a Commodore 64 with me to my freshman college dorm.

Katie, I like your reference to either your manual or your father as the source of technical knowledge. We all prefer to go to people we trust, which is why we only read the manuals when we've lost all hope.

We'll get all the blogs sorted out in class Wednesday. In the meantime, thanks for sharing your thoughts here.
