It is a fact that we, as Americans are loosing faith in the grammar system and becoming quite lazy, very lazy, writing online is very sloppy,I for one am a product of this, with no former teachings of grammar and puncuation, with the exception of high school, thirteen years ago,I have forgotten most of my propr education. Now, as I am enrolled in college, learning should make me better as a writer as I am now disciplined by proffessionals.

I I definitely agree with the points Long made in his article. Online writing has become almost unreadable because of the acronyms, misspellings, and bad grammar that are now widely acceptable.

We may as well develop individual languages. It won't make online writing any different. Things haven't changed that dramatically since I was in elementary school has it? As far back as i remember, my teachers pushed perfect use of grammar and punctuation. Have they stopped doing that? It's one of my pet peeves when someone doesn't use correct English on purpose. If you know it, why not use it?

I, for one, am a stickler for proper grammar both online and off. When I first used the internet (which I have found posts of on yahoo), I didn't quite feel that way-- and that, looking back, is something that makes me cringe and regret things.

Now, I use very little to no netspeak (in fact, I pretty much only use OMG or BRB or variations thereof) and I'm always sure to use correct capitalization and puncuation.

It scares me a little that so few people feel the same way. Sure, it's easier and quicker to shorten or leave out things, but is it really worth it in the end? People who aren't so savvy when it comes to that sort of thing are often left wondering 'huh' or 'what' in regards to what they're attempting to read.

I know that nobody's perfect, but an extra few seconds to properly type out a sentence can make a huge difference in how you're viewed.
