I found the article a bit interesting as the actors involved responded by e-mail had differences whereas spending time on the phone smoothed the bitterness out. I use e-mail for the convience that it has, a value that gets the message across fast, using the postal service takes time to get a point across, and talking on the phone is inconviencing, it involves too much effort, you have to look up a number, dial it, and if the other line is busy or that person is not home you have to leave a message. The experiment proved to me that people like to deal with each other in person or communicate verbally, the mere existance of a being, I guess creates a more comfortable atmosphere.

Just like everyone else, I have problems deciphering the tone of an email. You don't always know what to send in return or how? Do you do it in a sympathetic or a congratulatory way? How do you know? It's especially hard if you don't know a person like in the case of Michael Morris and Jeff Lowenstein. Sometimes it's a guess and hope for the best. Although, I've never thought about reading an email the opposite way of which I choose to decipher it. It's probably a technique I will try to use in the future.
