This is a paper that was written by Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States which talks about slavery back in the days and all what slaves had to go through, what they were allowed to do and what they were not allowed to do. It kind of like gives a brief history of how slavery was back in the days.

This is about a man who was a former member of the KKK. In this story, he tells people that he is no longer racist and he no longer discriminates people according to the color of their skin.

pg. 596 "If we didn't have niggers in the schools, we wouldn't have the problems we got today." As an African-American, when topics of racism or discrimination are brought up many things run through my mind. This quote that that I have taken from this reading, I feel shows the ignorance that ppl had. Nobody could be denied the right to go to school. I can't go to school due to the color of my skin. That's a bunch of bs. As this guy says he was once a racist/sexist, but as of right now he isn't ne more. I think that change was good for him. He realizes that everyone was just like him whether they were jewish, catholic or even black. They all wanted everything he wanted to be liked/loved.

pg. 603 The engineer says he feels awkward knowing that his daughter is goin to a school where there are more whites than blacks. This I think has a lot to do with society and the how they make blacks feel inferior to the whites. I could understand where he is coming from because I too feel more comfortable going to an all black school. I dont think that it's a matter of losing your blackness, I think that it is more that you feel comfortabale around your own kind and this is due entirely society.
