Scar Power

Write in any way that works for you. Write in a tuxedo or in the shower with a raincoat or in a cave deep in the woods.
John Gardner

I had the privilege to sit in on one of Dr. Arnzen's classes, the writing of fiction. During that class period we wrote a simple three paragraph short story. I have to note that it is hard to write a short story in three paragraphs, especially during a designated amount of class time. The idea is simple, make up a scar and write about it. I was pleased with what I came up with, at least considering the time frame I'd done it in, so here it is.

I'm not really sure what makes me remember every time I open the fridge door, its just that same old nagging feeling. Stupid elbow. Why did it like that fridge anyway? I got it outside, with no food in sight.
We were rock climbing, Chris and I. We were really having a blast. Maybe that’s the reason we weren't being very careful. That just seems so stupid and pointless when you're having a good time, its not like you're hurting anything. We started a competition as to who could get further from the rock-face. That dissolved into who could "fly" the longest. I wasn't worries, my feet knew just when to catch me again. Chris's didn't. He overestimated his arc and smashed into me and I in turn was smashed into the rock-face.
My elbow was ground into the cliff side. I was more annoyed by the fact that blood got all over my gear then the splintered elbow. We didn't panic like other teenagers would have. Cool as you like we climbed down the rocks. After the ER doctor stitched me up he looked down at my newly acquired wound. "Its going to look like you've got a banana holding your elbow together." Stupid fridge.

Diana, that short story is awesome! It's nice to know that when you are writing you can put some of your personal life in it too huh.....

Good story! Glad the class activity ("Invent a scar and tell its story") triggered such a good tight narrative.

Only Mike Arnzen could come up with such a cool & sick prompt. Way to go, Diana.
