An intellectual is a man who takes more words than necessary to tell more than he knows.

I'm in creative writing, and I love it. But there are times when writing a simple essay can be a huge pain. When this happens its easy to fall into the typical "I have to write three pages and I don't really have anything to say so why bother" attitude. So people plagiarize, and that isn't cool at all.
According to the Slackers intro: We have a lot of respect for teachers who encourage students to think and use their mind. We have no respect for teachers who fill up a student’s precious hours with busy-work.
So, question, is there a way to get motivated for these oh-so-boring essays that all of us at one point or another have to write?
Answer: I don't have a clue. So I looked into things a little closer. I came to the conclusion that, no, nothing really works for everybody, go figure!
I hear you Diana. I had a terrible time with the essay for Dr. Wendland's STW class because I am just so tired of talking about family that I didn't have anything else to say on the matter.

Try playing the game with yourself where you re-read what you've written only a half an hour into the paper (or a page into the paper, if you don't want to measure in time). If what you're saying isn't making sense, start over. But if you've got some valid points, work them into a paper. Keep doing the game until you reach your page minimum. But only if you need to; who knows, you might surprise yourself and end up writing like a maniac!
Usually it's most difficult to start an essay--once you get going, it's not really so terrible. I know you're a great writer, Diana. Don't let the academic part get to you :^)
Posted by: Karissa at February 7, 2004 1:08 PMA lot of motivation is lost becuase people strive to write meaningful after meaningful piece. Not every piece has to have comedy, transendent issues of god or a powerful love, or death. Write about simple times, simple places. I find people who write to impress the class or teacher boring with their creativity. Essay writing rocks!! Go team! right? (winks)
Posted by: Puff at February 9, 2004 3:01 PMHey Diana,
I have the same sentiments when it comes to writing something I can't write, excuse that I'm going on a little tangent here, but I thought you were going to post your story last Friday, oh yeah I hope you feel better, you missed a pretty fun class with Dr. Gray, back to the subject; for me when given the choices, I usually opt to write about interesting things, just get it done, present the point and pray for a fun essay to do next time! laters!
