Ann Stadler...

What were your thoughts about class today? I thought it was nice to hear from an actual Setonian editor. I never even realized that there were handicapped parking spaces in Lot D. (This could be due to the fact that I don't drive, therefore, I have no reason to complain or find a problem about searching for a parking space.) Ann's idea was both creative and definately an eye-opener to most students on campus. I also liked how she explained that the writer needs to explain how the problem is going to be solved. (That way, the readers will see the problem and understand why the problem has happened.) Overall, class was very interesting and I enjoyed listening to everyone's comments about not only Ann's article but the Tribune Review as well.

I really enjoyed hearing Ann talk. I thought she brought up a lot of good points, especially her emphasis on getting the opposing view in your editorial. I think people tend to think that they can just complain and moan about an injustice that they feel has been committed in an editorial and don't think much about being fair in their criticisms. If I read something that is completely biased and one-sided, even an opinion, I won't put much stock in it. I will be persuaded, though, if I think that the writer did their research and if her opinion is well-founded and well-backed.

Long story short - Ann was great =)

Anne is an excellent editor-in-chief, and she definitely knows her stuff. I only wish all of our classmates in Newswriting could see her hard at work in the Setonian office during a production week; she has been the cornerstone of the paper for as long as I can remember, now.

It wasn't bad, but most of the stuff I heard her say, I had heard at the beginning of last semester. Still, it was nice to get a refresher course!

But she is right, as a writer--if your going to present a problem--you should be able to present a solution to said problem.

Awe, Elyse, your blog entry was really nice. I am so glad you enjoyed and learned from the presentation. I thought all of the questions that were asked in your class were really good ones. It seems like all of you are learning a lot from Dr. Jerz.

I read on the sign-up sheet that you are interested in doing layout; well, we do need a production manager. I'm glad that your interested. If you want to learn how to do layout, just e-mail me to let me know when your available and I can train you in the office.
Thanks once again for your nice comments on your blog (and thank you to the people who commented such nice things on Elyse's blog too). I really appreciate the feedback.
