Hidey-ho! My name’s Emily Kasky, and welcome to my new blog! This is my first time blogging, so I’m really excited.
The origin of the title of this blog goes back to my freshman year at SHU, when I met some great upperclassmen. Practically every day at dinner (and sometimes at lunch), we would spend a few hours debating about religion, politics, different cultures and languages, the English language (for the international students) – You name it, we probably discussed it at least once. As the years have gone on, my friends and I simply don’t have much time do this anymore (darn night classes!). However, we still try to do this when we can. Therefore, I’d like this (hopefully, thought-provoking) blog to be dedicated to my current and alum friends who’ve participated in this tradition. This blog will be like our old discussions: A little bit of everything.
I don’t want to bore you with the story of my life, but I want to give you some background information on me, so you can get an idea with whom you’re dealing. I’m a senior at SHU, majoring in Spanish and History (with a personal focus on Soviet history). I like to sing, swim, spend time with my four cats, and play Dungeons & Dragons. I can’t stand moral relativism, liberal ideology, liberation theology, unions (especially the NEA), and the United Nations. I like languages – I studied French all through junior high and high school, and am currently learning Spanish at SHU and Russian (during the past two summers, and hopefully again this summer of 2005). When I have time, I also like to study Portuguese on the side and I’d like to learn Chinese in the near future. I have visited both France and Mexico, and my next goal is to get to Russia. I’m a quiet, shy, slightly aloof person, who is very proud to be a Republican and a Catholic and isn’t afraid to say so. (I guess I should say that people (including some professors) have used the adjectives “stubborn” and “obstinate” to describe meJ)
My favorite music includes selected musicals (of course, both Andrew Lloyd Webber’s and Kopit & Yeston’s “Phantoms”) and various international genres of music (Mexican, Russian, and Brazilian). Some of my all-time favorite movies are Joel Schumacher’s “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Finding Nemo,” and Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ.”
For the record, I don’t do PC (political correctness), so I’ll warn you not to waste your time trying to get me to say things in a pansy-like, watered-down way, because I won’t. The information I post will be to the best of my knowledge because accuracy is EXTREMELY important to me. I welcome comments, questions (about the information), and insights. Please keep them appropriate. I like to share what I know and am interested in, so I hope you’ll enjoy what I have to say and get something out of it. In conclusion, I’m looking at this as the “layout” of my blogging style:
• “Seinfeld” Tuesday – (I can’t stand the show, but I am using this title as a grab-bag, anything-goes day, because they talk about anything and everything on that show.)
• Spanish Thursday – (Basically like “Seinfeld Tuesday,” but in Spanish. I can always use the practice.)
• International Saturday – This is where I’ll talk about international cultures, languages, politics, history, etc. from all over the world. (I promise the topics won’t just focus on Russia and the former Soviet Union.)

Hi Em! I guess you got Bob, Lord of Evil's post! He always wished he learned a foriegn language and I guess that's just about as foreign as you can get, except of course for his "Swedish." Oh, by the by, he really did like the Swedish Chef bookmark. We watched the State of the Union address and we thought George did well. We all liked what he had to say but Bear wanted him to get rid of Social Security altogether (that's his libretarian side expressing itself). Bob (Lord of Evil) liked the simplification of the tax codes (I'm with him on that) and I thought the culture of life was encouraging. We'll write more later after we get the bitter taste of Nancy Pelosi out of her mouth. Female Tom Daschle, nasty, nasty nasty!
Hey Emily,
Welcome to the blogs, its nice to have you here :)
Thank you, Sue!
