Revised proposal
I love Rolling Stone magazine and the online version is quite fun and what I was going for. http://www.rollingstone.com/is what I'd like to base my ideas on, but not on such a large scale obviously. Just a few books, cds, movies, I like. www.metacritic.com was helpful too.

Those are certainly top-notch, super-professional sites. Are there any smaller-scale sites that you think more closely resemble what you'd actually be able to accomplish by the deadline? Maybe focus on one particular genre, and even specialize.
For instance, "Cheesey Sci-fi Films Things that Get too Big (Bugs, Plants, People)" or "Books I've Read and Given as Gifts."
