My Pathetic Portfolio

Here is the collection of my blog entries. I only regret that I could not be more active in blogging this semester.

Class Reflection

I wish I could have been more active in blogging for this class (EL150), but I hope my contributions in class have inspired people to SPEAK UP! I hope I gave people new insights and views and appreciations for literature. I am glad that I took this class (even though I did not have to for my major). I have enjoyed the humor and life Dr. Jerz has brought to this class. I am glad everyone brings in their own experiences and perspectives to help shed new light on each topic. I wish every one in this corner of the blogosphere good luck in everything you do. I will see most of you next semester.

Wit and Wisdom

"Nothing but a breath--a comma--seperates life from life everlasting" Wit, pg 14.

Yet, Vivian takes her pride to the gave, refusing to change the semicolon in the Donne poem to a comma (72-73). She even goes so far as to capitalize both D's on "death." I feel this is an indicator of her tragic flaw as a tragic hero: pride.

Dr. Jerz gave new insights in class affirming that this play can be looked at as themed in salvation. Does anyone think Vivian saved her soul by the end?

Just looking at Vivian's (second to last living statement), it seems like she stood strong in her beliefs and critical overanalysis to the end. And, instead of a comma seperating "World" from "Thereafter," there is a semicolon. Theologically, as stated in the dialogue between Ashford and Vivian, a comma is merely a breath.

Just some thoughts on Wit as we close up class.
