The Diamond Age

When I started reading, "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson. I was so confused. I had no idea what I was reading. I thought and I still think that was probably the hardest book that I ever had to read. After I read the first hundred pages I had no idea what anything was about, but I had the characters figured out sort of.
The most interesting thing in the book I thought was the relationship between Nell and Harv. Even when I did not understand what was happening with the story line I always knew and was interested in Nell and Harv's relationship. I found myself flipping forward to find out where the next chapter was when the author chose to write about them again.

In a way I think that is what the author was trying to do. Because it is very clear that Nell's life is miserable, but yet Harv is there for her to help her and defend her and be everything that she needs him to be. It kind of reminds me of the movie "Schindler's List." Only because in the middle of the movie the producer makes a little girl appear in a red dress when everything and everyone else is in black and white.
I think that The Diamond Age was worth all of the confusion and stress that it added! I loved the beginning, middle, and ending. One negative comment that I am going to make is that I did not like how at the ending Miranda and Nell just found eachother and showed no emotion towards one another when we know that there were deep feelings of attachment that they had felt towards one another. But my final conclusion is that I would def. recommend it to any person that asked my opinion on it. Great Story....The author is a genius!!!
