Its Complicated...

I totally understand how Samuel Clemens is not a racist. I've discussed this in not only this class but other ones too. I am a college student and my knowledge of the world and society is broader than say... oh a middle school or high school kid? Therefore, I think The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is way too ambiguous for kids and teens to fully understand. If I read Notes on the State of Virginia in the 9th grade I would of been so confused! How could Thomas Jefferson say these things. While now I understand how the world isn't perfect and this country has made its mistakes, I think its too jarring for kids to understand. I don't belive in censorship, however, I think certain things should be learned at the appropriate times.
