America was never a place of absolutley NO worries. But its did have less worry then it does now. There is crime and vilence everywhere, and we always had to watch out for ourselves. It is apparent that we do have to watch out even more now then before. When I was 14 I was walking my dog down an Alley and was stopped by a man in a white van and proceeded to try and verbally force me into his car, thankfully I was about a block from home and knew where to run through yards. They called it "attempted obduction"... ever since then I will not walk my dog, or go outside my house by myself. Or even walk down to the candy store that I did so often and I younin... This world is pathetic anymore and thats not just America, its everywhere... Abuse, Violence, murders, child porography and more... theres no escaping this troubled world, and we worry about other people... yeah go figure

It is pretty sick that every single place you go you have to worry about someone. Every time I am travelling in the airport (which is quite often), the security is INSANE. Now don't get me wrong, I'd rather they check everyone than no one, but it just shows how unsafe the world is. I usually have a one way ticket cause it's cheaper for me that way (Pittsburgh to Portland is not an easy flight to find), and since I have a one way ticket, I am always one of the people that has to be searched extra. I hate it, but it just shows they don't care who you are. Everyone in American could commit a serious crime.

What are you saying that there weren't people back then that could do harm? "There are people in the world now that can and will do harm to other people." I mean I agree America use to be a place where families felt it was safe enough for children to walk to school. But please keep in mind it wasn't just becuz of safety it was convenience. In my neighborhood a long time ago there used to be several schools that were in walking distance. When they started shutting those down and making them into just one big school the walking distance was out of the question. I really don't think that's the best example to use. But I do think that parents would be a little more concerned if their child would have to walk 10 minutes to school instead of 3-5 minutes. Other than that I do agree with you, America use to be a safer place.
