International Student Organization (ISO)

ISO was just recently formed, but its origins could be traced back as early as the 1920s with SHU’s, then Seton Hill College, first International Students from China, Emily and Ida Ho. What started as a missionary’s aspirations to spread Catholic education and religion in China evolved into a tradition to diversify SHU classrooms and community. Ms. Rebecca Lee, advisor of ISO, also assists the ISO students in the admissions office helping with University affairs. In the past ISO hosted Cultural Fashion shows and Japanese Tea Ceremony. Annual activities they host are:

*ISO Food Festival

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)

The recently established SHU chapter of the NAACP (2002) is not as new as one might think. Its predecessor, the Sisters Of United Leadership, S.O.U.L started in the 1970s. It promoted Black awareness. The club met to discuss the meaning of being black and the importance of accepting one’s culture. They helped others to understand the Black culture in the hopes of creating love and understanding in the community. Following these footsteps, the NAACP of SHU informs youth of the problems affecting African Americans and other people of color.
