News Writing vs. Blogging: Round 2
This is the SECOND portfolio of blog entries I have written for Dr. Jerz's News Writing class at Seton Hill University.
Click here to find out how blogging helps extend learning outside the classroom.
Coverage/Depth
The Big Picture and the Little Picture: Spot News- For this entry, I pulled out what a spot news story contains (the big and little picture) and broke it down into an easy to understand guide to writing spot news stories.
The Art of Attraction: Newspaper Front Covers- This blog is linked to previous blogs about front pages of newspapers to show the many different ways newspapers use the front cover to attract reader.
Dan Onorato's Campaign: Tracking a news story as it unfolds- This entry tracks breaking news as it unfolds. I will continue to update it as new information is released.
The Dos and Dont's of Crime Reporting- here I give a list of what to do and not to do when writing a crime report. (Listed below)
The Faults of Crime Reporting- this blog also points out some common errors I have found in crime reports. (Listed below)
Interaction/Discussion
The Big Picture and the Little Picture: Spot News- This entry created alot of discussion both outside and on the blogging.
Timeliness
The Big Picture and the Little Picture: Spot News- For this entry, I was the first to publish it (2 days in advance). I also went in depth to pull out what a spot news story contains (the big and little picture).
Dan Onorato's Campaign: Tracking a news story as it unfolds- This entry was published well in advance of the deadline (for obvious reasons). It will be updated periodically.
Xenoblogging
The Dos and Dont's of Crime Reporting- here I give a list of what to do and not to do when writing a crime report. This was meant to be helpful when we would have to write our own crime reports.
The Faults of Crime Reporting- this blog also points out some common errors I have found in crime reports. My hope is that my peers will avoid these follies after reading my blog.
The Big Picture and the Little Picture: Spot News- In creating this entry on what a spot news story contains (the big and little picture) I was hoping that my classmates would find it useful when they would have to write their own spot news story. Based on the comments, many peers did find it helpful.
Random Other Blogs
When Adjectives Become Gushy- This is the Chapter 6 entry (another entry) about Rene Cappon's book.
Beaver Boy Found Drowned: Tracking a news story as it unfolds- I created this blog entry thinking I would use it as my News Cycle assignment. I didn't. But I still left the entry up so I can update it periodically.
