What really happened...

Wow...Well I went to the Dr. Mendler speaking the other night and it was awesome. While I went to high school, Dr. Mendler came to our school and spoke about what it was like. At that time I think I was in 8th grade and with out a clue to what he was talking about...I knew what had occured but it didn't really sink in. However last year in my Lit. class we read a book titled Night. Which was about a boy living in Poland (I'm pretty sure thats where =/)with his family and were taken to a camp etc etc. The story was sooo interesting and it really made me think wow..thats what they went through. All of this was good but hearing a person retell his story..that was something else. Dr. Mendler told about his family and the experiences that he went through. All of it was horrible. How he had to fight for space, food, and his freedom. I thought that as he told about his story there were points where he was still sensitive about. It seemed like there were things still effecting him. It was sad. Out of a 72member family, he was the only survivor. The amazing part of his story was on his way home, when he found the head gestapo and actually through a trial sent him BACK to Poland where he was killed. Isn't that irony???? Dr. Mendler is a man to be inspired by. Through all the hard times, he still managed to make it through. It was an awesome experience. Something that I thought was interesting was that at the beginning of his speech...he says what am I? I am a human being. (Sound familar??) It was wierd how he said the same thing that James McBrides' mother did. =)
