"Americans have also traditionally insisted that they provide a model for the world, that theirs is a formula that others can follow, and that there is no better life available elsewhere." (Pg. 716)
Every country believes they are better than the next, along with every religion, and usually every person believes they are better at something then another person. However who says that the other countries must follow us? Yea we would like all places in the world to have the freedom of speech, the freedom of press, the freedom to do whatever! But that is not gonna happen.
Agenda Item- It is clear that other countries do not believe what we do is right and often feel we deserve what we get which is probably often true, however for those countries that want to have a life like ours why don't they use us as a MODEL? Watch what we do, watch our mistakes, so that they can go and do something similiar only without the mistake...What America does can often be an example to other countries.
Haven't other countries seen what America has done to it's people and others? Why of all places would we be used as a model, with all of our mistakes. What about England or Australia? Why can't they be used as models for other smaller countries who are looking for someone to model after?
Posted by: Kayla at April 17, 2005 12:48 PMIt is true that America is a great country but still that does not mean it is perfect, everybody makes mistakes, other countries might admire America but still there might be somethings that America does wrong that they do not like or do not appreciate
Posted by: ChinazomOnubogu at April 17, 2005 02:31 PMI think our country is a great place and I could not imagine living anywhere else. Our mistakes are not unique... EVERY COUNTRY IN THIS WORLD HAS MADE A MISTAKE AT ONE POINT OR ANOTHER. Our mistakes are made known to everyone because we are a well known place. America could be compared to a celebrity. No one knows my mistakes, but everyone knows Paris Hilton's. You cannot compare England and Australia to America, because how often do you hear things about them, good or bad? We know all of our mistakes not only because we are well-known, but also because we live here. It's our country. Of course we are going to know what goes wrong.
Posted by: Caroline Jones at April 17, 2005 06:11 PMI think that the United States is a great place to live, because of all of the freedoms that we have. I know the United States has made a great deal of mistakes, but it will only make the US stronger. The US learns from their mistakes and other countries should do the same. The US should learn from other countries mistakes as should other countries from us.
