The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plane...

One of my many flaws: like. I love saying like, and I can't help but say it often. I've been trying to clean up my bad habit (I'm starting small, eliminating "be" and working up to like). In honor of my steady progress, Donna read this comic, and thought of me.

Fret not, Julie. Just last year, a local linguist declared "like" valid in everyday speech.:

Hot dog! Now I don't feel so, like, stupid. :P

I haven't noticed incredible overkill in your "like" usage, but I want to hit everyone who does this nasty habit over the head with a pretty thesaurus.

There are girls in my classes that use the word so much that I dread when they speak in class.

I count, sadly enough, how many times they use it. I have gotten up to the twenties in a 30 second speech in class!!

Pounding my head on a desk seems to be the only alleviation of this pain.

It makes us look completely stupid. Yes, I am using us--I have fought to overcome this slip for years. I read in women's magazine study (I am going to blog it) that women do this all the time; it can even ruin their professional presence.

One four-letter word. Naughty, nasty, and even worse than the "traditional" ones. How sad.

I can name a male in the journalism class that says "like" way more than the legally allotted times in one complete thought.

any guesses?

I get all giddy when I talk in code.hehehehe. ooops I let it slip. Oh, well.
