The first episode of Joe Millionaire II was last night, and I have two questions:
I didn't watch it, however: I agree that it's stupid to subtitle English. They aren't that hard to understand. Unless they were whispering, I don't see the need.
Also, I looked on Fox's website, and the women range from 21-30 years old. But from the commercials, they do look a bit old. Maybe it's all the smoking and alcohol. Or maybe they have spent too much time without sunblock.

Posted by: Karissa at October 22, 2003 10:37 AMConversely, the question might be: Why do American women on TV (or even in real life) always look so young? I bet that's what the Europeans are asking when tv shows get imported from overseas. Which image is the more 'natural' one for the corresponding age? I know why they were subtitling in English, too: not only because they assume that Americans can't 'hear' it when they encounter a European accent but because it heightens the voyeuristic thrill of the show by suggesting that it's all the more exotic. But of course, TV execs know that too much reading on TV can get viewers to change channels probably more often than a funny accent would. I think they just want to remind us of the europeanism of the sequel.
Posted by: Mike Arnzen at October 22, 2003 01:12 PMMan! I missed the first episode. Although I don't really care for Joe Millionare so much, I did want to see the beginning of the new season.
On the age thing, I do think Europeans always look older and more drab. I think its the smoking and yucky wheather that often is in places like London and Paris. These woman don't eat too much either from the looks of them. Poor diet can definatly age on the face.
Can't wait to catch an episode myself.
Posted by: Lindsey at October 22, 2003 01:42 PMI am not excited about watch the new Joe Million the previews look very dumb and the women are even more money hungry compared to the first show. Besides all that the new Joe doesn't look as good as the last one. But I might turn in from time to time depending on the eposides and previews.
