Morning Drive Randomness

Just a few thoughts...

  • Can Uniontown make this longest commute list? I travel 45 minutes, and I don't even get to read a newspaper (safely).
  • Speaking of my drive, I hope Howard Stern stays off my radio. I like his entertainment news section (but that's late-morning), but frankly, I can't stand listening to him that often because he's gross. Eew. I really, really, didn't want to know. Honestly. This is me, switching the dial to Morning Edition, or worse yet, some random pop station.

Yes, the long commutes can get really boring. I have picked up on Stern a couple of times, but his nasal voice and content is a definite turn-off.

Now, in my total 1 hour commute, I sit and listen to soft rock, pop, or oldies. And sometimes I just zone out and think. (I do some of my best thesis writing in the car.)

Wow! An hour! You've got me beat. ;)

Is it safe that you "zone out" in the car, Amanda? :-o

    P.S. Hooray for randomness, Julie!

Personally, I miss Howard Stern on the morning commute. I live in the mountains and have a long commute to anywhere but the local store. I've been listening to him for years and it just isn't right in the morning without him, WDVE or any other station just doesn't do it for me. I do have to turn to another station occasionally when he gets really gross but I think I should have the right to make the choice. :) I've even been thinking about writing someone about it to complain.

See, I think that's part of my whole problem with Stern. The minute you (meaning people in the media) complain about him or his grossness, he then targets you for the rest of his days...take Star Jones, for example. Or even Craig Kilbourne, when he was attempting to be chivalric about what he did and didn't do with his "adult video star" girlfriend during a Stern interview...he got ridiculed for weeks for entertainment's sake. Ick. I certainly didn't want to know what Kilbourne liked to do with his "friend." To top it off, Stern seems to like the publicity he gets from being fined by the FCC...

However, I do see your point in that it is the choice you get to make as an adult listener. No one is forcing anyone to listen to Stern, and frankly I used to listen to him quite a bit, and still would if I caught him being funny rather than disgusting. But yet, I'm still glad he's gone (at least temporarily) because I'd prefer to listen to the music on the X rather than John, Dave, Bubba, Shelly, or whoever is left on that other morning program....hence, Morning Edition, I suppose.

Note: Instead of "adult video star" I attempted to write "p0rn," but my comment got blocked. That was certainly strange.
