computer woes.

you know what? I have about HAD IT with computers. I just typed a nice, long blog entry about how much I happen to dislike computers at the moment, and you know what? My dislike of computers just multiplied by about 300. Let's see if I can remember half of what my witty post was about. *grrr*

I was recapping about all the recent agony I've experienced with computers in my life...

Ever since I ran that CD from the IT department in my computer, I've had nothing but problems. I emailed them to tell them about it, and do you know what they said?? They told me that since Microsoft doesn't support Windows 98 any longer that I should go buy new software. Yes, Captain--right away, Captain. I'll sell one of my expensive ritzy European sportscars and quit school so I can have new software. *grr*

And then there's my monitor. Yes, it began acting up last week. The display gradually began to shrink until it became about half the actual size and rather hourglass-shaped on Saturday. It would get smaller each time the screensaver would come on or if I would reboot the computer. Then Sunday, as I was talking with my younger brother online, the screen decided to emulate a bad television connection ("snow" on the screen and all) and shut off. That's right--it shut off, and it won't turn back on, either. So presently I'm using my roommate's monitor because I have to buy a new one over break. You know, with all that money I don't have...

But that's not all--there are still databases. I work at the NECWB on campus, and we're in the process of revamping all the lovely databases. Every time I turn around, there are more databases! I'm beginning to have nightmares about them. Honestly. I recently finished working on quite a large undertaking of filing. It was a huge box (about a foot deep, 2 feet wide, 2 feet long) filled with random papers that hadn't been filed. We called it "the box." You name it, it was in that box. Well, "the box" was my only task for quite some time (weeks, it seemed), but now that it's done, I have databases. My supervisor and I agree that there needs to be ONE "main" database, rather than a zillion-and-one random lists of people's cousin's-uncle's-brother's-friend's-roomate's-sister that-we-may-have-had-lunch-with-on-the-third-tuesday-in-march-five-years-ago. *sigh*

My most recent undertaking is finding an affordable Internet connection to use while I'm at the hotel for the pageant. Did you know they want to charge people $9.95 for 24 hours of wireless connection that they only offer on THREE floors of the hotel!? *argh* Presently, I'm in the search of an 800 number to use dial-up because all calls from the hotel are long-distance, which would also rack up quite a bill... If anyone has any suggestions or tips (or 800 numbers for dial-up!!!) I'd appreciate hearing about it.

And yes, these ARE new colors you see. I've been rescued from the monotony of normal weblog colors thanks to some help from Anne Stadler. Thanks again, Anne :)
