Interviewing ease ;)

11/29/03 4:45pm No pics, yet... sorry...I just got finished with my interview. I had been ready for it since ten till two... The worst part about it was the anticipation between the time we got down there and the time that we actually got to go.

We DID get a bit more to eat today. Breakfast was nice--fruit, eggs, and muffins. Practice was from about 10:30 until 12:30. It was a bit too crazy to keep my huge heeled shoes on for the entire practice. I took them off to give my feet a good rest in my Nikes.

Lunch was good, too. We got to eat sandwiches and more fruit. However, I really needed a banana--too little potassium along with wearing high heels for the majority of the day doesn't make legs feel too good. I asked one hotel employee to bring me a banana, if it wasn't too much trouble. She brought me a perfectly ripe banana. I was such a happy kid.

The interview! Like I said, the anticipation was the hardest part. Still, there were five judges and we got to spend two minutes with each of them. The woman I sat with first asked what I thought about the Victoria Secrets advertising program. Well, I backed myself up with the recent research that I had done in my STW class and said that the media is objectifying women to extremes and that poor examples are being set for the youth. The man I went to next was the one everyone had said was being the "strict" judge. He asked me about Seton Hill and why I had chosen to attend. He asked me about my interest in teaching. Finally he asked what, if anything, would I change about the pageant. I said that, quite honestly, I thought that the issue with the food yesterday was a little extreme. I said that we live in a country where we are fortunate enough to have enough to eat, and that I thank God for that everyday; yet, the issue with the food was unacceptable. The woman that I moved to next seemed a little unfriendly... she asked about my career plans, so I said that I'd love to teach English and French, and depending on what happens down the road, I'd like to get into a bit of the politics of education to make changes as possible a senator or ambassador of sorts. The next woman I saw was thrilled to be there, obviously. She also asked about my teaching intentions. Then, she asked about my governor's schol experience, so I told the story about my migrant education class of 8/12 students not knowing English. She seemed impressed :) We talked more about my senior project, Teaching French to Enhance English, but the buzzer went off... The last man I talked with seemed stand-offish, but he asked what brought me to the pageant, and had I done any in the past. Easy questions :) Then, a toughie. He asked who I most admired right now. Well, with the recent surprise in Iraq with President Bush, I talked about him. I said that I didn't agree with everything that he's done, but that he takes credit for his mistakes along with his triumphs.

After the interview, we lined up to give the judges a good look at us, and then we rushed off to get ready for the evening gown competition. I've got to be ready for that in an hour and a half.

I'm glad STW class was helpful! But when are you going to mention blogging? Maybe you'll save that for the finalist round! :)

Well, I did get to say to one of the judges about my journalism class. She asked what kind of classes I was taking right now. I mentioned that I had a jounalism class that I wasn't sure about initially, but that I had to take it for my English major. I said that despite the fact that I have no intention of going into journalism that I had found so much from the class because I learned about writing styles and the process involved with writing for journalism.

:) Not blogging specifically, but should the occasion arise, I'm sure it'd be a great way to talk about the changes in journalism.
