Amputation

After having read "Bernice Bobs Her Hair," by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I must say that I was moved by the last few pages of the story.

Fitzgerald perfectly described the cutting of one's hair. As the proud owner of quite a mane myself, I was horrified when Bernice sheared off Marjorie's braids, but it's not like she didn't deserve that...

Bernice shouldn't have let Marjorie get to her like that--maybe Marjorie had that scheme all along? She was awfully jealous of Bernice's natural good looks, so why shouldn't she lead Bernice to hack off her lovely locks and marr her precious portrait? I know Bernice was caught in quite a jam--either bob her hair and hate it and hate herself for doing it, or not do it and lose the faith and popularity she'd earned with Marjorie's help. However, if Bernice would've just gone home when she felt like it earlier in the story and stuck to her own beliefs, she would've been happy.

Of course, then there wouldn't have been a story... Besides, who wouldn't have succumbed to the peer pressure that Marjorie put on her?

And if Bernice hadn't bobbed her own hair, there would've been no reason for the graphic details of the "amputation" of Marjorie's blond tresses.

*yikes*

That one still gives me and my down-to-my-elbows hair the chills...

I don't like to think about a man shearing off my hair, well, unless he has a really cute lisp and wears excellent clothing.

I don't think I'll ever be able to easily part with my lushious locks.... it's taken me quite a long time to attain the desired length--and to learn how to care for it and do things with it. (It takes me about ten minutes to shampoo and condition alone, not mentioning dry-time, and style time--you do the math.) But it's worth it :^)

I know!!! My hair is getting pretty lengthy as well. I find myself needing more than a quarter-size amount of shampoo now. And even more conditioner. EEK!! SPLIT ENDS!!!!
