English makes me a homebody.

My blog has become more of a haven for my thoughts than a reflection of my class work... but English will always make me feel like a homebody.

So is that how being an English major has affected my other courses? Obviously, most of my blog-friends know that not only was I an English education major, but also I was a French education major--therefore classifying me with three majors, and a hellish lifestyle.

Two days ago I made a few changes in that, however: I've decided to put education on the back-burner, so to speak, and I'm attempting to spare myself the turmoil of being so busy that breathing becomes secondary to the workload I've assembled.

Frequently, although I'm certain I'm not the only one, I reflect on the amount of work that I have to do for classes and, despite the seemingly obscene "to-do" list, I find that, more often than not, I enjoy doing the work associated with my English major more than some of my other courses.

I dare not say that I don't love French, but English, as my primary language, is much easier to understand, in comparison with French and, therefore, I find English relaxing--like a home-base--after studying or reading in French for an extended period.

Next semester I'm taking a course in Elementary Chinese at Saint Vincent College... I might find French as a solace from Chinese, and English a solace from French! I intend to learn as many languages as I possibly can throughout the course of my life, so maybe English will always have the same affect on me...?

Hey Karissa,
thanks for your input, it's nice to see that you're striving to do what interest you the most. Next semester I too would be venturing on a language excursion of my own, I'm taking intro to French II, this summer I'm taking intro to French I and I hope that would suffice for my survival in French II. I haven't been here for a few weeks. GREAT new layout! Keep it -- it's definitely a winner! As for this post, more power to you. Odd that you punted Education for more time...only to take Chinese!

Dr. A: well, thanks for that! I'm fascinated by language, so it makes sense for me to grab all that I can!

Mike: thanks for the thoughts--"Bonne chance" with your endeavors. If I knew how to say it in Chinese, I would... give me another semester ;^)

"Dear Karissa"
Dropping Education for Chinese(possibly the hardest language in the world)? One of the unique languages in which the written and verbal communications do not correlate. Good luck with that venture mate.

I like a good challange, maybe I need to take Chinese or Japanese. Be all that you can be!(I suppose that is not much of an educational slogan; unless learning to put a gun together in 2 minutes is educational?) (Insert Smile)

Karissa,

I know that the choice to put education on the back burner was a hard one and one that you have been stuggling with along with some of my other friends. I'm glad to see that you have made a choice and are taking up something that you are so excited about.

I agree with you on the English front. To write is an ability that has always been there for me as much as reading has been. These are two of my favorite past-times and I just get lost while I am engaging in them. Recently this happened to me when I was helping out on the stage crew at my high school. I'll explain more when I make my blog entry on this subject.

Just hang in the hun. The year is almost over and summer is right around the corner. If I can make it through to the end of the semester, I have faith that you can!

Karissa,

I had no idea that you put education on the back burner. I know how you feel. I am struggling with this major and I'm not quite sure if I want to continue to be an English teacher or not. You are outstanding as an English and French major and you are defintely going to succeed. I think its really interesting to read up on your blog about you taking a course of Elementary Chinese. Its quite different and sounds very exciting, I would like to know more about this course.

Karissa, you are going to be fine... I believe that I am in a rocky position as well, maybe even worse than you are. I love you girl!

Karissa,
I didn't know you had put your education classes on the back burner either. I think thats great that you did a lot of thinking about it and that you are following up with things that you really want to do. One thing that is great about college is that there is no set time that you have to finished with school. Yeah, it would be nice to get out in four years but that doesn't always happen. I know I'm going to be here an extra year, so I will be graduating with your class instead of mine. I screwed up in a couple classes which I have to make up and I changed my major so that set me back a little.
Anyways, enough about me :p you'll have to come to english class and teach us some chinese :) And I think that is great that you are getting some idea of what you want to do and where you want to go (with your education that is). I really think that you are going to be one of those people that are going to make something of themselves out there in the world :)
GO Karissa! :)
