Anti-Candy

Is this free-verse, or just not poetry at all? I'm not in the mood to decide, but I like it and I'm posting it : )

An Anti-Candy

Tasting not unlike a dandelion stem,
The cud threatens to snap my jaw.
The rough, clover-colored side of the kitchen scrubber possesses more flavor.
Miniature trees, ha!
The woodchuck should chuck this wood...
He wouldn't give it a second chance, even if it does have more iron.
Gnawing a bite of the dotted lime flesh first
Before advancing to its villainous trunk which is so deeply rooted in our minds as a necessary part of a veggie tray, though leftovers haunt the fridges and invite another type of devilish green to grow…
Ranch dressing or cheese—simply pleasurable by themselves—cannot formally attire this vegetative state.

Did this stem from a real incident? Did you root around in your memories? Or was it just freshly tossed off the top of your head?

Aw, shoot... I'm stumped.

*giggles* Clever, Dr. Jerz :^)

Actually, (I hope this doesn't kill the meaning) I like brocolli. I just wrote about someone that doesn't like it at all. I suppose that came from hearing a child ask his mother to buy brocolli in the fruit market...

Child asking his mother to buy brocolli? What is this world coming to when a child asks for it?

When they start asking for Brussel Sprouts, please inform me and I'll check the temperature where I am (hoping I wouldn't be frozen solid).

You would be surprised at how many children like brocolli, especially when paired with something they like, such as cheese or dip.

Sorry, I am starting to sound like a mom. Too much time with kids...

I have only recently started liking it actually; ever since I started wanting more than lettuce, tomatoes and carrots on my salad at restuarants.

I guess kids liking brocolli is a good thing. Especially because it helps the ears or eyes or improves one of those 5 (or sometimes 6) senses that we have.

It's packed full of iron, as are all veritable green, leafy foods. (And you can't learn at summer jobs?)

Personally, I can't say that there is a fruit OR vegetable that I don't like in some form. I.e. cauliflower I only eat cooked, celery I only like raw, and carrots I like both cooked and raw.

Amanda, enforcing the liking of yummy healthy foods like that will make you a great mom--we need more moms that say "no" to sugary foods and yes to broccoli. ;^)
