EL405 Project 2 Proposal
I don't want to blog my proposal, really. It's the kind of idea I'm hoping to make unique in that my portfolio will stand out against the rest. Announcing that I'd like to make it in Flash makes me think that lots of people will do it and then mine won't be stylish or unique anymore. And the ones that other people make have a 99% chance of being better than mine, since 99% of people learn software faster than I do (I took a survey).
Oh well. I want to make my portfolio in Flash. Click below to read what I wrote up for class that we didn't end up needing... but I wrote anyway since when I hear "proposal" I tend to think "something to hand in." But I've been wrong a lot this semester, and this was no exception. Read on if you want the formalities of what I propose to do. Comments and suggestions, while not required, are appreciated.
I'd like to make something for my second project that I can use past the constraints of this class. I'm considering how I might make a Flash project that would fit into my portfolio. Perhaps that would make the whole concept of my portfolio more interesting (on the whole). I'm not sure I would want to do the whole thing in Flash, but perhaps if a couple sections were set up with Flash interaction it would be a nice presentation of the material that I intend to include.
If I could set up the Flash program to help create a navigational system for my portfolio, I think that would be best. If I did end up making my whole portfolio in Flash, would it require that my "documents" be photographs? Or would I still use links to externally hosted pages I've uploaded to the web? (I would probably as PDFs and not .doc or .rtf documents so that I'm less likely to be plagiarized.) I could include sound and some small, but interesting visual effects to make my portfolio presentation more polished and unique. I think if I did this that my portfolio would truly become my own and stand out among the hundreds created in just this year.
I will need to learn more about creating connections between frames and making a user-friendly set-up on the screen. I will also need to learn more about technical aspects like uploading the Flash document to the web so that I may show it to others. These would be minor goals for this project. I believe that the larger goals would pertain to my abilities in achieving the results that I have projected. This project would involve more of everything that I did in the first project—more writing for the screens, more coding to make things work, more technical aspects to make things smoother and attractive, and more creativity to make this unique project really take off.

I wouldn't take other people making their portfolios in Flash as ruining your unique idea. I'd take it as a compliment; if other people are using your idea, then at least you know it wasn't such a bad idea after all.
Just trying to give some insight, since you seem a little disappointed having to post your idea. It is an excellent idea, too. Good luck!

Haha, thanks, Stormy. I just didn't really want to post it because I wanted to make it my own little project. I guess I rarely get to bask in the glory of having a good idea for something like this (especially in this particular class), so I wanted to make the thing then post it... Thanks for the support, though. Much appreciated.
