Game...er?
Yours truly finally gave in and *gasp* bought a video game console. Call it what you will--boredom or the luck of a $100 gift card I totally forgot I was getting in the mail till just last week--but I got a Nintendo DS Lite.
I got one of the newest ones. Last week a packaged deal was released containing the DS (black and crimson), a little black case for the console, and the game Brain Age II. Not a bad deal for all three things. (At least it didn't cost as much as my brother paid for his XBOX 360... Yikes.) The crimson is really unique since the other DSes are white, black or pink. Very sharp. While the case isn't the greatest, it does its job and it was a good deal so I really can't complain.
Brain Age II is one of the reasons I bought the package. I'd heard good things about the original Brain Age. Considering that lately I've felt like my brain is dripping out of my ear at an alarming rate, I figured I didn't have much to lose by trying out a game that claims it might improve my memory and mental reflexes. All of this on top of the reading I'm trying to sustain as the rest of my friends pick up in another school year...
It's a neat game, and I'll be anxious to see how it works out for me. There are little games you play once a day to "train" your brain--things like unscrambling words, matching signs, concentrating on a runner in a race to determine what place he finishes in, and piano playing. Interestingly enough, though, while I've never even tried Sudoku before, I'm getting rather good at it on the DS... and I kind of like it, too!
I've wanted a DS since Mike got one more than a year ago. I got him the game Magnetica for it for his birthday last year and then--then, my friends--he got Animal Crossing, and I was essentially hooked. I love that little game... I was never able to sit and play a game for an hour at a time before until that game (with the exception of Katamari Damacy for PS2). I don't see myself playing too frequently, but I am going to try to stick to the once-a-day Brain Age training. It's only a couple minutes, so I can handle that. No huge commitment.
This should be fun. :)
