Most annoyingest

I have always wondered why it is that superlatives are so difficult for people in our English speaking world. Words ending in "er" and "est" are thrown around like confetti. Qualifiers and quantifiers are also pretty frequently misused--"less," "more," "fewer," "most," "best," "better," "worst"...

There's a Dairy Queen commercial right now that says in the very last line "more yummy."

Why not just say "yummier"? Is there something wrong with that? Or how about rephrasing to say "most delicious" or "tastiest"?

Another one that annoys me is the debate between "less" and "fewer." It bothers me so much that I make the correction in my head every time. Doesn't anyone else hear how wrong it sounds to say "less people"?

I guess you could say that I appreciate a well used modifier. Yes, you may say that. Go ahead.
[/ end grammatical rant]
